As a 26-year-old Brazilian singer, I want to share my exciting experience of singing abroad and learning English for my journey. I have been singing in Brazil since I was a teenager, but I had never sung outside of my country until last year. It was both thrilling and challenging because I had to communicate in English, which I did not know well.
Six months before my trip, I realized I needed to learn English. My English was very basic, so I had to start from scratch. I spent a lot of time practicing simple conversations, asking questions, and learning how to talk about music. I used apps, watched videos, and sometimes I talked with friends who knew English better than me.
During my trip, I faced some difficulties because of my limited English. At the airport, at restaurants, and especially at music venues, I had to speak English. Sometimes people did not understand me, and I had to try to explain in different ways. It was hard, but also a good way to learn.
In each country I visited, I tried to use my English as much as possible. I talked to other musicians, fans, and people I met. They were all very friendly and helped me when I didn’t know how to say something. This made me feel more comfortable with the language.
Singing in English was a big step for me. I had to learn the lyrics of English songs and practice my pronunciation a lot. It was important for me to sing correctly so that the audience could understand. I was nervous, but the reaction from the crowd was amazing. They enjoyed the music and appreciated my effort.
This experience taught me a lot about music, languages, and myself. I am still learning English because I want to travel more and meet more people. Music has no borders, and now, I feel like I don’t have them either. I am grateful for the chance to sing abroad and for the push it gave me to learn English.
